Blog Cramming

I only take time to post a fraction of the things I consider posting. So I’m going to cram a few thoughts into one and call it a day…

Faster and Braver

If I had to describe Audrey and Aaron at 1 ½ years old, it would be “faster and braver.” They’re going further, exploring more, and they’re quicker than they used to be. Nathan recently said I seem more tired this month than in the past and I told him my faster/braver theory. Although the energy level is up, the hilarity level is also up around here…

Understandings and Misunderstandings

These kids are changing by the WEEK! They can do and say more every day. We’re even getting into bigger words now. Aaron’s pronunciation is a little off, but he loves to talk about ‘animal crackers’ (A-mul cack-uhs) and the urbana library (na-na why-wow-whee). Audrey is putting words together like crazy! The other day she said “mokey poo poo” and proceeded to put monkey doll on the changing blanket and got a diaper out for him. She also says things like “more cracker please, daddy-audrey zerbert (she didn’t want one from mommy, she wanted one from daddy). She also adds her name to any new word. If you say rainbow she says Audrey rainbow. If you say put your shoes on she says Audrey shoes. And according to Tascha, if you say pretty deer she says Pretty Audrey!

Audrey amazed me the other day when we were pulling out of the garage by saying, ‘bye bye home!’ with no prompting from me. I always say ‘we’re home’ when we pull into the driveway, but she said ‘bye bye home’ on her own. Later we were walking along the alley behind our house and Audrey pointed to a neighbor’s garage door and said ‘home!’ Then I realized she thinks that garage doors are all home.

The first time Aaron signed the word for hurt and then said teeth I was so relieved that he was able to tell me that something hurt so I could fix it for him. But soon after he got in the habit of saying hurt I would ask him what was hurting. He started saying any other word they came into site or mind. Tummy Hurt! Shoe Hurt! Bowl Hurt!

Despite the misunderstanding it’s so wonderful to be able to communicate more with our kids and understand the their thoughts more. It’s so interesting to look at a book with Audrey and hear her say Bath! I look at the picture and think, huh… that’s not a bath at all but I guess I can see how you’d think that and I love knowing what you see!

In the Words of Kip

As Napoleon’s older brother Kip said, “I just love technology.” My friend Jaime is an Uber-blogger. She blogs a lot and always has picture to go along with her families adventures. At her twins’ birthday party the other day I looked around the room and marveled at how many of her friends there that I kind of feel like I know because I always see pictures of them and read about them on her blog. The road goes two ways. When we were in Arkansas two different people came up to me at church and said something along the lines of, “I don’t know if you know me, but I was friends with your sister-in-law and I’ve been following your blog from a link on hers.” While in Arkansas we also met a family who had been on my old campus ministry’s prayer chain during the birth of their child and some complications that followed. I prayed through tears for their baby boy and read about him on their family’s blog. It was great to meet the happy, healthy family I had prayed for and never met.
